Graduate Exchange Programs
NB: The exchange programs listed below pertain to Ph.D. students only; M.A. and submat students are not eligible for either program.
Ivy+ Exchange Scholar Program
After their first year of coursework, Ph.D. students are eligible to take courses or conduct dissertation research at one of the following universities for no additional charge, aside from travel costs.
- University of California, Berkeley
- Brown University
- University of Chicago
- Columbia University
- Cornell University
- Harvard University
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.)
- University of Pennsylvania
- Princeton University
- Stanford University
- Yale University
- Rutgers University
Most commonly, Ph.D. students use this program to take a single course at a nearby university. In rarer cases, students may request to complete a full semester of courses or undertake dissertation research at a partnering institution. In these cases, the student should discuss their interest with the Graduate Chair as early as possible, as there are several policies and procedures that need to be considered.
For more information, and to apply, please visit the SAS Ivy+ Exchange Scholar Program page.
Penn-Rutgers Exchange Program
The Penn-Rutgers Exchange Program enables Ph.D. students enrolled at either Penn or Rutgers to take graduate-level courses at the other institution. Eligibility is limited to Ph.D. students who have completed at least one full academic year in residence at their home institution. Exchange students must be enrolled or registered at the home institution in order to be eligible for participation in the exchange.
For more information, and to apply, please view, complete, and submit the following form. Note that the form will need to be approved and signed by relevant parties at both Penn and Rutgers; the Graduate Coordinator can assist with obtaining the necessary Penn signatures.
