Other Teaching Opportunities at Penn and Beyond

Some Ph.D. students find additional teaching with adjacent departments and programs at Penn, including the Cinema and Media Studies Program and the Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Program (GSWS). Students typically learn of available work because they have overlapping research interests with the program or department and they participate in extracurricular events (talks, workshops, etc.) organized by the program or department.

These teaching assignments, when available, are managed entirely by the other department or program. Availability and conditions of teaching assignments outside of the English Department will vary, and students should read their work agreements thoroughly.

Ph.D. students also find work teaching at local universities, including Drexel University, Temple University, The University of the Sciences, Bryn Mawr, and Villanova. Occasionally, the advertisements for open teaching opportunities are sent directly to the department, at which time they will be circulated to grad students. Other times, students seek out adjunct teaching themselves.
