Deborah Burnham has lived in Philadelphia and worked at the University of Pennsylvania for over 30 years. She has served as an undergraduate advisor in the College office, directed an academic writing program, and is currently the Associate Undergraduate Chair of the English Department. She teaches undergraduates and adults, focusing on 19th and 20th century fiction and on (mostly) American poetry. For many summers, she taught poetry at the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts. She leads poetry workshops for high school students, and for cancer survivors. She has published two books of poetry, and has another in circulation.
