Fisher-Bennett Hall 330, Graduate Lounge

In this workshop, we will address challenges and opportunities in creating an inclusive classroom for trans and gender nonconforming students. Topics include: how to facilitate discussions that allow for respectful viewpoint diversity on gender and sexuality issues, how to handle classroom conflicts stemming from transphobia or unintentional mistakes, setting boundaries for tasking trans and GNC students with speaking for their identity groups, and how to frame class material without resorting to students' bodies as a source of authority. We will make room for your questions and will collect them anonymously as well, so we can be as productive as possible. The panel features Dr. Erin Cross, Director of the LGBT Center and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies affiliated faculty. Alvin Kim and Davy Knittle, Ph.D. students in English, will help facilitate. Lunch will be served. Please contact Howie Tam haot@sas.upenn.edu if you have any questions.
