FBH, Grad Lounge

We write to welcome all to the first meeting of the semester, where we will introduce our calendar of events and discuss two short readings. The faculty speakers that we are delighted to host in the upcoming months include Professors Tomás Uryaoán Noel (NYU), Gustavus Stadler (Haverford College), and Robert Reid-Pharr (CUNY – Grad Center).

We will also discuss the full calendar of events in more detail during the introductory meeting. Please contact this year’s coordinators, Evelyn Soto (esoto@sas.upenn.edu) or Keyana Parks (parksk2@gmail.com) to obtain a copy of the shared readings for discussion: the introduction to Freedom Time: The Poetics and Politics of Black Experimental Writing by Anthony Reed and "#Ferguson: Digital protest, hashtag ethnography, and the racial politics of social media in the United States" by Yarimar Bonilla and Jonathan Rosa. As always, light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

We look forward to the discussion and seeing everyone there!
