This course continues the reassessment of the historical record of literature written during the Romantic age in Great Britain to reflect its actual parameters. Inasmuch as these three decades virtually overwhelm one with their riches, however, the selection will have to be representative. Still, we will mark the three national literatures that at this time are subsumed by the term "British," and the following authors will find room in the syllabus: fiction: Austen, Edgeworth, Hogg, Scott, Mary Shelley prose: Hazlitt, Hunt. poetry: Barbauld, Byron, Clare, Crabbe, Hemans, Hunt, Keats, Moore, Shelley, Jane Taylor, Wordsworth.
