Visiting Scholars
We occasionally grant Visiting Scholar status to qualified candidates. In each case we consider the recommendation of a Penn faculty sponsor, and our faculty typically sponsor only those colleagues with whom they share a history of intellectual and academic collaboration.
We hope that time spent at Penn as a Visiting Scholar will benefit both the visitor and the department, and will allow for the successful completion of a research project. We thus encourage Penn faculty who sponsor Visiting Scholars to find ways of incorporating them into academic activity on campus. They should feel welcome to attend talks and seminars, and, where appropriate, they should be asked to present their scholarship to our reading groups or other academic gatherings.
Visiting Scholars should be aware that we can offer them library privileges, but no other form of institutional support. Visiting Scholars should be in touch with potential faculty sponsors, who will forward their application to the Chair for consideration and approval by the Executive Committee.
