Rowan Carlacci is a doctoral student in the Penn English programme specialising in early medieval England and Carolingian Europe. Her research explores concepts of timekeeping in the early medieval Latin West, and the influence of timekeeping and temporality on early Western historiographical traditions. She takes particular interest in the transmission and influence of Late Classical didactic models and cosmologies into the medieval period.
Rowan was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year and will be a visiting student at Oxford University for the duration. She graduated cum laude from Columbia University with a B.A. in History and Linguistics, and holds an M.A. in Medieval Literature from the University of York.
