English and comparative literature professor Charles Bernstein's opinion editorial for The Philadelphia Inquirer, "University Community Cannot Let Penn Book Center Close," praises the Penn Book Center as "a neighborhood center for literary culture" and argues that its loss "would be as great for Penn as the loss of the statue of Ben Franklin in front of University Hall."
