Ling Ma is a writer hailing from Fujian, Utah, and Kansas. She has written two books of fiction—the novel, Severance (2018) and the story collection, Bliss Montage (2022)—both published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Stories and excerpts have appeared in the New Yorker, The Atlantic, Granta, Virginia Quarterly Review, and Vice, and she has received a number of awards and fellowships, including a Whiting Award, the Kirkus Prize, the NYPL Young Lions Fiction Award, the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award, and an NEA fellowship. The Kelly Writer's House is excited to host Ma as this year's Lucid Fiction Fellow, with support from Penn's Program in Creative Writing, Asian American Studies, and Department of English.
