Location: Zoom

In this workshop, we will explore the spells from Ntozake Shange’s 1982 novel Sassafras, Cypress and Indigo. We will also read and discuss the automatic writing of Lucille Clifton, who called herself a “two-headed” woman and documented her spirit visitations in poetry. We’ll use these texts as guides and prompts for our own writing based in ritual that reaches beyond the seen, the living, and the ordinary.
