In this workshop we will have the opportunity to discuss strategies to design and incorporate creative assignments in our classes. What might creative assignments for undergraduates look like? How might these assignments effectively combine creative aspects with the critical components of the course we are teaching? What are some best practices for assessing and evaluating such assignments? Julia Bloch, Director, Creative Writing Program and Associate Director, Kelly Writer’s House and Orchid Tierney, Graduate Student in the Department of English will help us think through some of these questions and other concerns that we might have regarding incorporating creative assignments in our classes. Both speakers will share concrete examples of how the creative and critical overlap in productive ways. This workshop is particularly well suited for third- and fourth-year students in the English department who will teach the Junior Research Seminar. However, all are welcome.
