- Wednesday, March 2, 2016 - 4:00pm to 5:30pm
FBH, Grad Lounge
In light of the state crackdown on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), there will be a broad and informal conversation on Wednesday, March 2nd, in the English Graduate Lounge at Fisher Bennett Hall, 4-5.30 p.m. The deteriorating situation in India is an opportunity to also reach out to interested students and faculty who are thinking about the fraught relationship between educational institutions and the state at large. We have followed students movements in South Africa, seen crackdowns in Turkey and know of police intervention on campuses in the US. This meeting will focus on diverse contexts, strategies that have been employed, ways of engagement or even disavowal/disaffection with the state. What creative options/conceptual tools do we have in such a polarized atmosphere?
