Rainey Auditorium, Penn Museum, 3260 South Street

New digital tools and techniques are revolutionizing the study of music, poetry, and folklore by expanding the archive of available sound recordings and providing new ways to analyze it. Many older recordings that were thought lost because of defunct formats or material decay are being brought back to life by digital reconstruction. At the same time, computational methods are providing radically new ways to read this audio record of our cultural history. Join us as Patrick Feaster and Tanya Clement discuss their pioneering work in this exciting new convergence between digital technologies and the humanities.

The audience is invited to stay for a luncheon reception following the event.

Cosponsored by Penn Museum.

Symposium free and open to the public. Pre-registration required.
