Fisher-Bennett Hall Graduate Lounge (Room 330)

You are cordially invited to join us on Monday, April 7th in the Fisher-Bennett Hall Graduate Lounge (Room 330) at 5:30 pm for a talk with Dr. Amanda Lock Swarr, Associate Professor of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington and author of Sex in Transition: Remaking Gender and Race in South Africa (SUNY Press, 2012).

Dr. Swarr will discuss some of her previous work in relation to her current book project, Forcing Sex: Violent Contestations over South African Masculinities.

In preparation, we will be reading the introduction to Sex in Transition as well as "Paradoxes of Butchness: Lesbian Masculinities and Sexual Violence in Contemporary South Africa."

Professor Swarr has also suggested we view Zanele Muholi’s short film, “Difficult Love," which is available for free streaming at: http://www.imdb.com/video/wab/vi3128728089/.

Snacks and drinks will be served. We look forward to seeing you at the event!
