Memoir Workshop

ENGL 9002.640
also offered as: MLA 5002
instructor(s):
Thursday 5:15-8:14pm

How do you tell your own story? This creative writing workshop will be devoted to the craft of memoir. Students will work with some of the forms of memoir, including personal narrative, dialogue, description, and character development, and will explore how memoir can expand our understanding of truth, imagination, memory, and why a story matters. This workshop class will allow you to explore many modes of telling your story, helping you find the creative path that best suits your own instincts and truths. Students will develop their relationship and connection to time, place, and origin, and this course will open opportunities to explore how identity can energize your writing practice and product. We will exercise building our voices through conventional and unconventional structures across many writing prompts and readings, culminating in a final portfolio of writing.
