Writing Fact and Fiction: Introduction to Creative Writing

In this course, students will read contemporary (and not so contemporary) writers such as Diski, Elkins, MacFarlane, Morris, Parker, Smith and more. Students will be introduced to the craft of writing through discussions of genres, styles, techniques and themes. In workshops they will explore different kinds of fictional and non-fictional approaches to writing and composition from reporting, travel writing, nature descriptions and autobiographical writing. Students will write weekly pieces of ca 500 words. Throughout the semester students will discuss the literature and their pieces in workshops. Criticism and editing will be vital components of the workshop discussions.

No mid-terms, no final exams.
