Cultures of the Book

ENGL 034.401

 This course is about the printing and making of books, focusing on the makers (paper-makers, writers [scribes and authors], printers, illustrators, binders) and on the material processes that transform rags and ink into printed texts. We will be exploring how these makers and processes are central to how books mean. The course be based upon hands-on experience in paper-making, printing, and binding.
