London in Literature

ENGL 067.950
instructor(s):

We will concentrate on works that show us London in several different lights, and at different time periods, combining our reading with excursions to places mentioned in these works whenever possible. We will read Orwell's Down and Out in Paris and London, a selection of Dickens, T. S. Eliot's The Waste Land, Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, and Jeanette Winterson's Sexing the Cherry.

Requirements include one in-class report, short response papers to each of the readings, and one longer 6-8 page paper.
