Department of English

Pulitzer-Prize winning author and Penn alumna Jennifer Egan is featured in Penn Today's article, "Studying Novels with a Novelist." Egan is the English Department's Artist-in-Residence, an appointment supported by the Sachs Program for Arts Innovation at Penn and Dean Steven J. Fluharty of the School of Arts and Sciences. Her course, English 086.001 "Self, Image, Community: Studies in Modern Fiction," is not a writing course but a literature course, built around the books she knows and loves, that studies a broad range of major English-language literary texts across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
