Department of English

An intensive study of eight of Shakespeare's plays:  A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Richard II, Henry IV, Othello, The Tempest and a play to selected for individual analysis by each student.  The course will also consider, as background, other plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries.  Topics covered will include Elizabethan language and culture, printing and stage history and issues of critical theory.  (This course fulfills the Arts & Letters sector of the General Requirement.)
