The Short Story

ENGL 103.601
instructor(s):
M 4:30-7:10

Our text for the course, A. Walton Litz's Major American Short Stories
(3rd ed.), will provide us samples of stories by some thirty authors
for discussion and analysis.  These stories will furnish texts for two
short essays, the first on point of view, the second on language, in
two stories of your choice.  A third, longer essay will consider the
stories in a collection made by one of the authors we discuss.  A
final examination will provide you an opportunity to demonstrate your
command of the readings and your critical ability.  Active and
informed class participation is expected from all.  (NOTE: This course
counts toward the Arts & Letters requirement within the General
Requirement.)
