This course will survey key philosophies and fictions of the "Orient" from early modern through Eighteenth-century Europe, with a focus on the theories of Edward Said and the legacies of Orientalism as they continue to resonate with current day politics of race and empire globally.

Advanced undergraduates and submatriculated M.A. students interested in this course should request permission from the instructors and should submit a permit request via Path@Penn.
