This seminar will focus on the work of Clarice Lispector, the Ukrainian-born Brazilian novelist and short story writer (1920–1977). Particular attention will be paid to the centrality of her work to the development of theories of feminist writing, her influence on Black writers, and adaptations and translations of her writings as examples of international modernism. Students will be responsible for a semester-long project.
