The Asian American Subject

ENGL 272.401
instructor(s):
MWF 10:00 am

How does it feel to be Asian American? This course will examine how literary works present this particular subject within crisscrossing networks of race, gender, and class. We will encounter a wide range of Asian American subjects in novels by Susan Choi, Mohsin Hamid, Ruth Ozeki, Jhumpa Lahiri, and others. In addition, we will consider theoretical models of subject formation which try to account for the minority subject in American culture.
