This workshop course will serve as an introduction to the theory and practice of new media. We will immerse ourselves in the emerging conversation about the status of publishing in an age of digitization, addressing such topics as the history of print, theories of authorship, the digital revolution, open-access publishing, and the ramifications of new media in the areas of education, research, and literary publishing. Students will experiment with various modes of new media, including blogging, wikis, Drupal, Prezi, hypertexts, Flash, social media, transmedia, and the ever-present challenge to humanize digital tools so that they bring readers closer together.
