Creative Writing: Writing Humor and Comedy

ENGL 010.900
instructor(s):

Writing Humor and Comedy is a creative writing workshop focused on helping students to develop their skill in writing humor. Students read work by David Sedaris, Dave Barry, Steve Martin, Douglas Adams, P.G. Wodehouse, and others as models, and then write original humor prose pieces. The main content of the course is the writing and critiquing of student work. Students may write in multiple genres (short fiction, review, essay, comedy sketch, and other forms) as they learn about developing comedic premises and revising for comic effect. They also gain experience as critics and editors of humor writing.
