Writing Women, 1660-1800
Careful consideration of works produced by and about British women between 1660 and 1800. Primary reading typically includes prose fiction, memoirs, letters, drama, poetry, political debate, and expository writing. Emphasis will be on relations between women's imaginative writing and contemporary political and social events. Requirements: careful reading of primary texts, library research, oral reports, class participation, and papers. Students in disciplines other than English are welcome. Students are expected to have training in deliberative writing.
