The Asian American Archive

ENGL 072.401
instructor(s):
TR 3-4:30

The class will introduce key texts of Asian American literature to explore the wide varieties of Asian American experiences and their historical conditions. Our archive will consist of different forms of materials from short stories, novels, poetry, plays, film, popular culture, to newspapers and historical narratives. The class will use the materials to consider different aspects of Asian America: representations of Asian Americans, Chinatown experiences, racial relations identities, panethnic and diasporic communities, and new directions of Asian American studies as the archive expands. Reading load is approximately 150 pages per week. Two short response papers (3-5 pages), two quizzes, one mid-term exam, and one presentation with a written report for a collaborative project on the Asian American archive.
