A course in writing the informal, personal essay. Students will be asked to write at least five essays whose subject matter will largely come from their own lives and whose topics might include childhood memory, memorable character, significant event/rite of passage, the natural world, and places of personal importance. We will read from an anthology of essays, *The Art of the Personal Essay*, and use what we read as models for our own writing. Revisions will be required for 2 of the essays, as will written critiques of student work discussed in class.
