Major British Novels 1660- Present
Elaine Freedgood profile

TR 12-1:30

We will study the novel intensively, examining the complex changes of form and content over two and a half centuries. We will consider the history of the novel, problems and conventions of reading, and various theories-political, psychoanalytic, sociological-- ofthe novel and narrative as they have emerged in contemporary criticism. The class will be divided between lecture and discussion. Students will write frequent short idea papers which will be presented and discussed in class.
