FBH Grad Student Lounge (room 330)

We will be hosting Patricia Stuelke (Associate Professor at Dartmouth) in the Grad Lounge (FBH 330) from 5-6:30pm TODAY. Her talk will be titled "Writing From the Long Middle: Notes Toward A New Cultural Front." Please see pasted below the abstract: In contrast to commentators who have recently declared the transnational activism of the left of the 2010s over and failed, this talk suggests that we are instead in a period Fargo Tbakhi and others have called the “long middle,”  when tactics and the aesthetic forms that register them are still in play, when the future outcome is still unsettled. Re-periodizing the present in this way makes visible the contours of a new international cultural front, in which the imprint of contemporary movement tactics, strategies, and politics are visible in writers and filmmakers’ aesthetic experimentation with genres such as dark academia, the archive novel, and the commune novel.

This event will be co-sponsored by the AmLit, Latitudes, and Latinx Studies Working Groups in the Department of English, and by the Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies (CLALS).
