Michael Gamer: Bio

I am an Associate Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania and Faculty Master of Harrison College House, where Associate Master Elise Bruhl and I do weekly Fellowships and Career advising. Living with 860 students isn't for everyone, it's true -- but we like it.

My first book, Romanticism and the Gothic: Genre, Reception, and Canon Formation was published by Cambridge University Press in 2000.

February 2002 saw Penguin classics publish my edition of Horace Walpole's Castle of Otranto, and in 2003 Broadview Press brought out The Broadview Anthology of Romantic Period Drama, edited with Jeffrey Cox. The anthology includes plays by Joanna Baillie, Lord Byron, Samuel Coleridge, George Colman the Younger, Hannah Cowley, Thomas Dibdin, Elizabeth Inchbald, Matthew Lewis, and Percy Shelley. I also edited the first volume -- containing Manon L'Escaut (1786) and The Romance of Real Life (1787) -- of The Works of Charlotte Smith, (General Editor: Stuart Curran).

Most recently in 2008, Dahlia Porter's and my edition of Lyrical Ballads 1798 and 1800 came out; it's also published by Broadview Press.
