[opening lacuna]

as an excerpt in a collection of Latin texts--an excerpt among excerpts by people such as Pope Pius II. The next appearance occurs in 1581. Here, the first ten books finally appear in English, but English translated out of French. My search suggests that Chapman's Iliad arrived piecemeal until it finally appeared in its entirety, translated directly from Greek, in 1611.
