Cinema and Media Studies

Cinema Studies approaches the history of film and related media from a variety of perspectives: historical, critical, and theoretical. It examines a wide array of texts, from early silent-film-era cinema to YouTube. The advancement of media technology is of particular interest to this field, as the invention of new forms of visual and auditory storytelling necessitates new critical lenses to interpret their societal and political implications. While focused on situating media in the broader contexts of modernism, narrative theory, commerial entertainment and consumer culture, and technologies of production.
