20th Century British Literature

A study of British Modernism and its fringes in the first half of the 20th century. The course will focus on the writing of the great figures in modern and Modernist English poetry, fiction, and drama: Yeats and Eliot; Conrad, Joyce, Woolf, and Lawrence; Beckett and Pinter. After a few introductory lectures, the texts will be discussed openly in a lively atmosphere of free exchange. Also: lurid photographs, elaborate DNA graphics, and seven-figure book contracts to alert participants who know how to capitalize.
