As part of the Penn Humanities Forum's theme of "Violence," this seminar will examine films and videos made in a variety of contexts in response to the so-called war on terror. We will consider how moving images have been used in that war, as well as how they are used to represent it. The International House Film series, "Women Film the War on Terror," is being run in conjunction with this course, and members of the seminar are expected to attend the screenings: http://www.phf.upenn.edu/13-14/film_series_women.shtml.  Other requirements include full participation and attendance; in class presentations and participation in seminar symposium; 20 page research paper; participation in Canvas discussions.
