The Midterm (February 25th, 2002, Williams 29, 1:00-1:50 p.m.)

The midterm will be 50 minutes. There will be 8 passages taken from the assigned readings; in nearly every case they will be passages on which we have spent time in lecture or discussion. We'll ask you to respond to 6 of the passages, asking you to identify author, title, and date of composition or publication (3 pts.) and then to answer the specific question regarding the passage that we ask of you (7 pts.).

We will grade the midterm as follows. The highest score will receive the grade of A+. The second-highest score will equal 100%, and begin the A's. From there, 90% will be A-, 80% B-, and so on. So, if the second-highest score is 55, then a score of 49 (90% of 55) will be the cutoff for A-, 44 (80% of 55) for B-, 38 (70% of 55) for C-, and 33 (60% of 55) for D-.
