Graduate Exchange Programs

The Exchange Scholar Program allows Penn doctoral students who have completed at least one year at UPenn to apply to study for a term or academic year at one of ten other participating institutions: UC-Berkeley, Brown, Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale.

Through a cooperative arrangement with Princeton University, University of Pennsylvania doctoral students may, upon presentation of the proper credentials and with the permission of the Graduate Chair and the instructor concerned, enroll for a maximum of four courses, or for a maximum of one academic year for dissertation work. The University of Pennsylvania will accept credits completed under this agreement for a Ph.D. degree.

Through cooperative arrangements with Bryn Mawr College, Haverford College, Temple University, and Swarthmore College, University of Pennsylvania students may, upon presentation of the proper credentials and with the permission of the instructor concerned, enroll for courses in these institutions. The University of Pennsylvania will accept toward a Ph.D. degree up to the equivalent of three course units for work completed under this arrangement.

Students may take courses at other institutions with the permission of the instructor and the Graduate Chair. The student signs up for this course as an independent study.
