Support after the Fifth Year

As of Fall 2008, students in years 6-10 will have reduced tuition of $1,500 in the Fall and $1,500 in the Spring. The general fee will be $250 each semester. See this page for more details: http://www.sas.upenn.edu/GAS/home/financing/finances.html

The Department tries to ensure that sixth-year students who wish to teach are either offered Teaching Fellowships (since all Fellowships cover tuition) or are offered supplemented Lecturer positions which in effect duplicate the Teaching Fellowship package (See Lectureships). But neither of these offers is guaranteed, and they are usually issued fairly late in the fifth year (early May). Contact Deborah Burnham and Emily Steiner, the Undergraduate Chair, to investigate these teaching opportunities. For support after their fifth year, students should also apply for intramural and extramural fellowships and look for teaching elsewhere (CGS, the Undergraduate Program, Womens' Studies, etc.).
