ENGL 033.001
instructor(s):

This course will endeavor to show how authors who knew the Bible well used it to think through fundamental human problems.  In this effort, they used the Bible sometimes as a help and sometimes as a sounding board.  We will read selections from the Old and New Testaments in the King James Version and the works of three authors:  Chaucer's mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"">Canterbury Tales (in the translation by Coghill , selected), Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream   and  King Lear, and Melville's Billy Budd.   Midterm, final, two papers.
