Fulfills Sector 4: Literature of the long 18th-century (ca. 1640-1832) of the English Standard Major

Careful consideration of works produced by (and sometimes, about) British women between 1660 and 1800. Primary reading typically includes these genres such as these: prose fiction, memoirs, letters, drama, poetry, political propaganda, and expository writing. Emphasis will be on relations between women's imaginative writing and contemporary political and social events.  Requirements: careful reading of primary texts, library research, oral reports, class participation, and papers. Students in disciplines other than English are welcome. Students are expected to have training in deliberative writing.
