Creative Non-Fiction Writing

This workshop in creative nonfiction will provide space and time for exploring stories lodged in childhood, family, and personal history, as well as topics of special interest to individual students. Through the techniques of the interview, research, imagination and visualization, students will write profiles, personal narratives, essays and individual pieces related to the student's chosen subject. Students will learn critical skills in editing and revision during workshop sessions. Readings will include selections from a range of versatile authors including Jamaica Kincaid, Grace Paley, James Baldwin, John Edgar Wideman, Tobias Wolfe, E.B. White, and Barbara Kingsolver.
