English 115.601
Advanced Fiction Writing
Karen Rile profile

W 6:30-9:10

This is a course for advanced writers who have already completed at least one semester of English 112. Participants should be familiar with technical topics in fiction writing, such as point of view and narrative distance.

In this class you will have at least two opportunities to present a story or novel excerpt to the workshop. You are also encouraged to present revisions of your work. We will do some exercises designed to illuminate technical, ethical, and aesthetic issues in fiction, but the emphasis throughout the semester will be workshopping student-initiated projects. Class participation (careful reading, constructive comments, rigorous manuscript editing) is critical and will count for up to 50 % of grade.

Admission by permit only.
