This class is designed for students interested in becoming familiar (or more familiar) with a selection of Shakespear's play: three comedies, three tragedies, three histories, and two romances. All lectures will draw out the central concerns of each play and situate them in the cultural context of Shakespear's time. Classes will follow a lecture format, though questions and comments are encouraged. Midterm, final exam, and one paper required.
