Major British Poets, 1660-present
Richard Hendrix profile

W 6:30-9:10

We will read romantic, Victorian and early modern poets, seeking to discover and appreciate key aspects of poetry and criticism since 1789. Throughout the course we will do close reading of texts with some attention to versification, in order to understand how poems contain and transform individual ideas and historical realities. Poets will include William Wordsworth, S.T. Coleridge, John Keats, P.B. Shelley, Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Christina Rossetti, W.B. Yeats and T.S. Eliot, among others. There will be about three short papers, possible quizzes and a final exam (which can be replaced by an independent project.)
