B. Yagoda profile

M 2-5

Reading writers that will be selected from a group including George Orwell, Joseph Mitchell, John McPhee, Tom Wolfe, Hunter Thompson, Joan Didion, Ron Rosenbaum, Janet Malcolm, and others, this course will examine the traditions, possibilities and problems of "literary journalism": writing that is, on the one hand, grounded in reporting and facts, and, on the other, artful and innovative. Students' work will be a mix of journalistic and critical writing. Manuscripts should be addressed to and sent to or left in the English Department, 119 Bennett Hall, 34th and Walnut Streets, Philadelphia, PA 19104.
