David Boyd profile

TR 10:30-12

This semester, Topics in Medieval Literature will adress the subject of drama and theatricality in some late medieval texts. In paricula, we will examine that way that interpretation and performance are intricately entwined in texts by Chaucer, John Gower, and the Wakefield Master, an anonymous "editor" responsible for bringing medieval drama from its crude beginnings to a Golden Age i nEngland. The class will read, discuss, and PERFORM several texts based on recent critical assessments of medieval drama and theatricality and will, for the final project, write its own medieval drama.
