Connolly profile

MWF 1-2

An introduction to medieval chant through the study of several important liturgies, including Holy Saturday and the Assumption. The course will explore the nature of the music within its spiritual, historical, and social context. Ability to read a simple line of vocal music will be helpful, but not required. This course accommodates graduate students who need some background in medieval liturgy and chant. Attention will also be given to medieval art in which the liturgies being studies are depicted.
