Shakespeare, Clothes and Identity
Peter Stallybrass profile

TR 9-10:30

This course will concentrate on six plays (Twelfth Night, Troilus and Cressida, Hamlet, Troilus and Cressida, King Lear, Othello, and Pericles) to explore how definitions of the self and of gender are constituted through clothes and other forms of materiality.  Although our primary focus will be on the plays, we will also be reading recent historical and theoretical work on clothes, identity, and transvestism.
